EVPC Volunteers Support Recovery Through Weekly Pickleball at Serenity Lane

Each week, Emerald Valley Pickleball Club (EVPC) volunteers visit Serenity Lane’s residential treatment campus in Coburg to host two hours of friendly, accessible pickleball. What began as a simple outreach effort has grown into a meaningful part of the weekly rhythm for many patients.

EVPC members set up the courts, offer light instruction for those new to the game, and guide players through relaxed, supportive play. The emphasis is not on competition or mastering technique. Instead, volunteers focus on creating a positive environment where participants can move, laugh, and enjoy a healthy break in their day.

Pickleball fits naturally into Serenity Lane’s whole‑person approach to recovery. The sessions provide gentle physical activity, social connection, and small moments of accomplishment — all of which support emotional well‑being during treatment. Many participants discover that the game offers a welcome sense of normalcy and fun at a time when both are especially valuable.

One of the most rewarding outcomes has been seeing former Serenity Lane patients out on public courts after completing treatment. Their presence is a testament to how a simple weekly activity can spark a lasting connection to movement, community, and healthy recreation.

At the heart of the program are the EVPC volunteers who show up each week with patience, encouragement, and a genuine desire to support others. Their efforts highlight the role community can play in healing — sometimes through something as joyful and uncomplicated as a rally on the pickleball court.

EVPC is always looking for community‑minded players who want to make a difference. If you’d like to be part of this weekly outreach, click here to learn how to volunteer.
